If you are not staying with family or acquaintances and do not have any other self-organised accommodation, the Adalbert-Stifter-Weg 25 reception centre in 09131 Chemnitz is currently available as a first point of contact.

  • Please note that after your arrival in Chemnitz, you may be transferred to other facilities of the Saxony State Directorate by the responsible Saxony State Directorate. On the other hand, after your registration you will be assigned to a district or an independent city within the entire Free State of Saxony. Temporary accommodation in the Adalbert-Stifter-Weg 25 reception centre does not mean that you can remain permanently in the city of Chemnitz.
  • Please also note that the first point of contact may change. We therefore recommend that you check this website for updates immediately after your arrival.

Information for those with their own home

In Germany, every household (living unit) is required to pay a broadcast licence fee for television and radio. But you can also be exempt from paying this. You must apply for such an exemption.

For environmental reasons, waste in Germany is sorted. There are different bins for different types of waste:

  • Yellow bin: for packaging, e.g. made from plastic or metal.
  • Brown bin: for biological waste, such as food scraps or plant waste.
  • Blue bin: for paper and cardboard.
  • Black bin: for all other waste.
  • Bottle bank: for all glass containers. (The bottle banks are publicly accessible).
  • Returnable bottles: some bottles can be returned to supermarkets in exchange for deposit money.

Please note that batteries, chemicals, dyes and technical devices such as televisions or defective furniture must be disposed of elsewhere. Please speak to a relevant person about this, e.g. a caretaker or residence manager. In some municipalities, you as a residential tenant are obliged to regularly put the waste bins out on the kerbside yourself. These will then be emptied by the rubbish-collection service. You can ask your neighbours or the relevant authorities to find out the emptying times.
